How it works:
Fotona’s high-performance Nd:YAG laser systems with FRAC3® technology have introduced new standards of efficiency in providing safe and effective hair reduction – using an innovative system that effectively targets hair follicles with a combination of selective and homogenous photothermolysis.
Safe for All Skin Types
Fotona’s Nd:YAG lasers incorporate revolutionary pulse-control technology and a proprietary three-dimensional treatment pattern (FRAC3®) to provide safe and effective hair reduction. Unlike other wavelengths, only Nd:YAG is safe to use on all skin types. Fotona’s innovative system effectively targets surface treatment areas while leaving surrounding tissues unaffected.
The success of hair reduction treatments depends largely on a patient’s skin and hair type, as well as the skills and treatment insight of the practitioner. Most patients can expect a significant reduction in unwanted hair, and any future hair growth will usually be thinner and lighter, and thus much less pronounced than before.
The powerful penetration of the Fotona laser ensures it can target even the deepest hair follicles, while its low absorption in all skin types makes sure the surrounding tissue is undamaged. This means this laser treatment is safe, more comfortable and more effective, even in darker skin types, often requiring less sessions than traditional hair removal lasers. Any area is suitable for treatment. You will be advised on this at your consultation.
The laser light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. Because hair grows in cycles and hair has different pigment content at different parts of the cycle the same area will need several treatments to catch all the hairs at different growth phases to give maximum clearance of hairs. A minimum of 6 sessions is required.
During treatment you will be aware of a hot pricking sensation, this is well tolerated by clients.
Expected Results:
An ideal client for hair removal is someone with dark hair and fair skin. However unlike other lasers, the Fotona laser is effective with darker skin types and lighter hair colour too.
*Please be aware that a small percentage of people do not respond to laser hair removal.
Treatment Summary

Duration of Treatment: The time taken for the procedure depends on the area that needs treating, the larger the area the longer it will take. From 20 mins to 120 mins.
Recovery: No Down Time
Treatment Interval: Face 4 week intervals, body 6 week intervals. Some clients may need to return for a maintenance treatment – perhaps once per year. Some clients never need to return as the hair reduction is sufficiently maintained.
Pre-Treatment Advice: Shaving or depilatory cream to be used on the area being treated 2 days before treatment
Post-Treatment Advice: Avoid Shaving for first 24 hours post treatment

BOOKING A CONSULTATION
When you contact us, we start with an informal chat, asking about your concerns. Our experienced staff will be able to go through potential treatments that can help with your concerns. We will also address any wider areas of skin/body concerns you may have and guide you towards which treatments may be most beneficial for you.
You will then be offered an initial consultation for our clinical team to discuss your concerns in more detail and decide on the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
You will also be sent an information pack, including a medical questionnaire and pre and post treatment information that will need to be completed prior to your first consultation.
PRE-TREATMENT CONSULTATION
Before your appointment our highly qualified team will have already had the opportunity of reading your medical questionnaire and reviewing any photos you may have already sent in.
This first consultation is the most valuable opportunity for you to talk through your concerns and discuss your desired goals on your journey with us. It is very important that we fully understand what you would like to achieve and we will also offer our expert opinion on how we can help.
At this appointment, if suitable, we will undertake detailed skin analysis and if your treatment plan is going to involve laser treatments, we may also undertake a patch test with the appropriate Fotona laser for your needs. The patch test helps you to know what to expect in terms of sensation and any reactions your skin may have to this treatment.

QUOTATION
After your consultation, we will send you a quotation for your treatment and a suggested treatment plan. If more than one session is required, we will include the number of recommended sessions and the length of time each appointment is likely to take. Once you have decided to proceed, we will book your first treatment appointment.
YOUR TREATMENT
At your first treatment appointment you will have the opportunity to ask any further questions you may have before proceeding and will then be required to sign a consent form for the treatment. We always take photographs pre and post treatment to be kept on your personal medical records, we are required to do this medicolegally. It is also invaluable to assess the progress of your skin during your course of treatment. Your consent is also required for photographs to be taken. During the treatment session you will be advised on aftercare to optimise your results and advised about the interval needed before your next session.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
We always encourage you to come back to see us following the end of your treatment course, for a courtesy review appointment. This is a great opportunity to review your progress and see if you have any further questions or needs. This is also an opportunity to discuss maintenance of your skin following your treatment and we can prescribe any relevant at-home skincare if required to ensure your results are maintained for as long as possible.
